How faith in life stops us from being fearful, passive, and irritable
“Ninety-seven percent of things we worry about never happen,” my mom said when I was 17.
Her words soothed me, and I unfroze, enabling me to get on with the tasks at hand.
Fast forward 25 years, and in a state of anxious resentment, I read a book that contained the following words:
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”
Reading and rereading this passage, calmness descended on me. I realized that as a shadow wouldn’t kill me, neither would my emotions. Furthermore, a valley was not a dead end but a way to pass through.
